Amnesty International Nigeria is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Researcher. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking human rights work in Nigeria, combining research, advocacy, and campaigning to deliver meaningful change.

ROLE SUMMARY

As a researcher, you will develop and implement impactful research programs across a broad spectrum of thematic areas, including but not limited to civil, political, economic, socio-cultural, and developmental rights. You will play a pivotal role in addressing critical human rights issues such as freedom of expression, assembly, and association; gender and intersectional justice; rights to health, housing, and social security; criminal justice reform; and civic space protection.

Please note this is a fixed-term contract opportunity for 24 months.

AMNESTY NIGERIA PURPOSE

Amnesty International Nigeria operates as part of a global movement focused on addressing national human rights priorities while empowering Nigerians to engage with international campaigns. Our mission includes leveraging Nigeria's regional and global influence to advance human rights at all levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Research & Analysis: Monitor and investigate human rights developments, providing accurate, independent, and impartial assessments. Conduct field research and produce high-quality briefings, reports, and press releases.
Advocacy & Campaigning: Develop and execute strategies addressing documented human rights violations. Build and maintain networks with key stakeholders, including civil society organizations, UN agencies, and governmental representatives.
Communication: Represent Amnesty International Nigeria to external audiences, ensuring the organization's positions are effectively communicated.
Collaboration & Flexibility: Work closely with teams across Amnesty International and contribute to organizational goals during crises or unexpected challenges.
This is not an exhaustive list of duties.  The need for flexibility is required and the post holder is expected to carry out any other related duties, that are within the employee's skills and capabilities whenever reasonably instructed.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Substantial experience in human rights research, development, and advocacy.
Strong understanding of Nigeria's socio-political and cultural context and familiarity with international human rights standards.
Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to create tailored materials for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in English, with knowledge of a major Nigerian language or Pidgin being an advantage.
Competence in digital security and social media platforms for advocacy.
Ability to handle sensitive issues ethically and diplomatically.
Resilience, creativity, and flexibility under pressure.
